Job description

Purpose of the Role

Responsible for the integrity of the Group balance sheet and statutory reporting framework. Act as a key technical accounting resource within the finance leadership team, supporting the ongoing development of the Group’s financial reporting framework, balance sheet governance and financial control environment.

Key Responsibilities


Financial Reporting

·       Assist in preparation of financial statements

·       Ensure compliance with UK GAAP

·       Review and analyse financial data for accuracy and completeness

·       Manage the consolidation of financial results.

Compliance & Controls

·       Ensure adherence to statutory reporting requirements

·       Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting

·       Liaise with auditors during external audits

·       Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and standards

Team Management

·       Mentor, and develop reporting/accounting staff

·       Allocate workload and ensure deadlines are met

·       Promote continuous improvement within the finance function

Process Improvement

·       Identify and implement improvements in reporting processes

·       Enhance automation and efficiency in financial systems

·       Support finance transformation initiatives

 

Role Outcomes & Measurement Objectives

  • 100% of balance sheet accounts reconciled monthly

  • Statutory accounts delivered within timetable

  • Audit evidence library maintained and audit queries efficiently resolved

  • Accounting policy and judgement papers maintained

  • Intercompany balances reconciled monthly

·       Assist in preparation of financial statements ensuring compliance with UK GAAP

·       Review and analyse financial data for accuracy and completeness

·       Manage the consolidation of financial results.

·       Efficiency improvements in reporting processes

Skills & Key Competencies

  • ACA (preferred) / ACCA qualified.

  • Strong technical accounting capability, with deep knowledge of UK GAAP, gained within a complex audit or in‑house environment. Experience operating at a manager‑equivalent level within practice or industry, with strong commercial awareness. Exposure to mid‑cap or regulated organisations, including in‑house finance experience, is preferred.

  • Experience lead role in group audit engagements for multi-entity organisations.

  • Strong balance sheet control and reconciliation discipline.

  • Ability to prepare and update technical accounting position papers supporting accounting and going concern stress testing.

  • Hands-on approach with willingness to engage directly in detailed financial reporting works.

  • Strong team player, results driven and curious mindset.

  • Solid experience in financial reporting or accounting.

  • Experience in a managerial or supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and financial regulation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Advanced Excel and financial systems knowledge (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

 

 Nice to Have experience

  • Experience in a multinational or listed company

  • Exposure to financial consolidation tools

  • Experience with ERP systems and reporting automation
